Proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation), the product serial or model number, a description of the defect, and often photos. Some claims also require the original packaging or a return of the defective item.

Timelines vary by company and claim complexity. Simple replacement requests can be processed in a few days. Claims requiring inspection or repair may take 2 to 6 weeks. Include an estimated timeline in the confirmation message.

A return is a standard option within a return window, typically for any reason. A warranty claim is for defective products outside the return window, when the issue is covered by the manufacturer's or retailer's warranty terms.

Some companies can verify purchase through a credit card statement, order number, or registration database. Include a field asking for alternative proof of purchase and describe what's acceptable.

For product warranties, typically yes. Some warranties are transferable; include a question asking whether the submitter is the original purchaser and add a transfer documentation field if applicable.
